Trend View

Highlight the dataset to view and click the icon for Trend View from the Views menu. Alternatively, right click on the dataset, select View > Trend.

All selected fields of the following data types can be trended:

  • Integers

  • Doubles

  • Strings

Double and integer values can be trended on the same graph; strings will be trended on a different graph. It is possible to view a single field time-series trend, or view multiple fields on the same time-series trend.

During configuration: an area refers to the graph on which trends are plotted. Determine which fields to trend per area, or create new areas to view multiple graphs.

Columns of trends

The trend areas will split into columns as areas are added.

  • 1 - 3 areas: 1 column

  • 4 - 8 areas: 2 columns

  • 9+ areas: 3 columns

Trend view

The actual data values of the selected fields are trended. A key will differentiate the trends of the different fields.

  • X axis values: the row number of the dataset

    • Use the scroll arrows to move to the next data rows not show in the current view.

  • Y axis values:

    • double and integer fields: the data value

    • string fields: the data index

    • range:the data range is set during configuration of the areas. It is good practise to trend fields of similar value ranges in a single area.

    • alignment: the y axis for all the areas in one column is aligned at the first row of data.

The different areas each containing the selected and defined fields will be shown, as configured.

The trend areas will split into columns as areas are added.

  • 1 - 3 areas: 1 column

  • 4 - 8 areas: 2 columns

  • 9+ areas: 3 columns

Bad quality

Bad quality data is not plotted. There is no trend line between the previous and next good quality data point, indicating bad quality data.

Zooming
  • Click and drag with the left mouse button on the view to zoom in and magnify the axes.

  • Click the on the x and y scroll axes to return to the original view.

Pages

The number listed in the text box is the number of the record that is viewed at the beginning of the trend, on the y axis. Type in the number of the specific row number, and click [next] in order to see the trend of that record.

Alternatively, click the required icon to scroll through the data to the following placeholders:

  • next / previous page of data. 1000 rows is the maximum per page.

  • a jump ahead / behind in the data, at intervals relative to the size of the dataset

  • the last page of data entries, or the first page of data entries

Configuration

Fields

Select the fields to trend, by moving fields from the Available list to the Selected list, using the arrow keys.

By default, the first field in the dataset is selected.

All selected fields of the following data types can be trended:

  • Integers

  • Doubles

  • Strings

Areas
  • Each area can have more than one field trended in it.

  • Alternatively, each field can be trended in its own area.

  • Double and integer fields can be trended in the same area, indicated with a [#] icon.

  • String fields can only be trended with other string fields, indicated with letters of the alphabet.

  • The default area name that is automatically assigned by the software can be edited in the text box on the right.

Add an area:

  • Choosing to add a new area will add another graph to the view.

  • Fields to be trended in a particular area can be seen by using the [+] to expand the area field list.

  • Use the up and down arrows to move a field to a different area.

  • Highlight a specific area, and use the up and down arrows to move the areas into different order. This will affect the way that the trend views are listed.

  • By default, all selected double and integer fields will be listed under # New Area 1, and all selected string fields will be listed under ABC New Area 1.

Remove an area:

  • Only areas containing no fields can be removed.

  • If you wish to remove an area, first move the listed fields from that area using the up and down arrow keys.

  • When the area no longer contains a field, it will be indicated by a yellow question mark. At this point, the [Remove] button will become active, and the area can be removed.

Y axis range:

  • Double and integer fields:

    • Select to have the data interpolated and form a continuous trend, or to show the actual values, forming a stepped trend.

    • Configure the range of values shown on the y axis by clicking on the appropriate radio button. It is good practise to trend fields of similar value ranges in a single area.

    • The option to sort discrete values will not be active, as double and integer fields are considered to be time continuous.

  • String fields:

    • The trends are stepped for these discrete values.

    • Values will be sorted alphabetically, from A - Z, if this option is selected.

Properties

Configure the properties of the trend graphs.
